You Are Certified & You Have A Medical Kit. Do You Know How To Use It?

My name is Matthew Pasa and I am 29 years old. I consider myself a lifelong learner and have over 10 years of experience teaching professionally  in a wide range of disciplines from sports, academics to first aid. My passion in life comes from educating those that want to be educated, and one of the most important aspects to my philosophy in teaching is that everything learned can be forgotten.

We are discussing Ebbinghaus forgetting curve which was hypothesized in 1885 by Hermann Ebbinghaus. The premise behind this theory is that the knowledge that we learn is lost over time. Even in a matter of days or weeks. The only way to retain that knowledge truly is to consciously review it over and over. I think you know where I am going with this now. So you are certified in Basic Life Saving (BLS) - which does not expire for 2 years and you have your personal first aid kit available and ready to go, but you don't happen across an emergency situation for years. If an emergency situation presented itself right in this very moment would you know what to do?

Odyssey First Response (OFR) was founded in hopes of providing practical hands-on scenario based training in basic life saving to professionals and individuals to fill the gap of time between 2-year refresher courses just because your job told you its required, and the inevitable lost knowledge over time.

OFR will be presenting classes with situational scenario emergency training. For example - if you are in and around the water surfing, fishing, diving, swimming or near water based environments in general we offer the Waterman Trauma Scenario Training. This class will cover those basic life saving skills you were certified in, but apply them to staged scenarios to help reinforce those in-valuable skills. Covering topics such as shark bites, boat prop lacerations, sanitizing fish stings and cuts, fishing hook removal, bleeding control, CPR on a boat and other emergency scenarios found in and around the water environment.

Another example class will be Family & In-Home Emergency Scenario Training. Covering topics such as falls, head injuries, CPR, coking, poison ingestion, bleeding control, sanitizing injuries, long term and short term injury care, broken bones, sprains and strains and other common in home emergency situations.

We will be releasing many scenario based courses throughout the development of Odyssey First Response. We believe in continued education and reinforcing knowledge that we can not afford to forget. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share experiences, educate and train more and harder than just the bare minimums.
